Lohri
The festival of Lohri is Punjabis’ cultural celebration which marks the culmination of winter by lighting fire and creating a bonfire to mark the onset of longer days. This harvest festival is also celebrated to mark both celebration and sharing. Bhai Gurdas Group of Institutions celebrated Lohri in its campus with great joy and enthusiasm. The programme kicked off with Lohri Poojan and litting the sacred bonfire by S. Hakam Singh Jawandha, Chairman of BGGI. All the Directors and staff members of the constituent colleges of the BGGI Group were present on this occasion. The function started with a special assembly wherein importance of the festival was discussed. On the occasion, special arrangements were made. Immersed in rich cultural folklore of Punjab, dances and melodious songs were presented by staff members of all the constituent colleges of the BGGI Group. Groundnuts and sweets were also distributed among the staff members.
S. Hakam Singh Jawandha congratulated all the staff members on the festival. Throwing light on the festival of Lohri, he said that the festival marks the victory of good over evil and prompts people to be thankful for God’s provisions. Dr. Guninderjit Singh Jawandha, Dean Colleges, BGGI, said that the function was planned keeping women empowerment in mind. He called today’s celebration as “Betiyon ki Lohri” dedicated to women dignity.
